The Green Planet

There’s a new face at The Green Planet and we can’t wait to meet him! An abandoned Sulcata Tortoise, weighing 31kg was found wandering along the side of a road before the indoor tropical rainforest took him in. He is now settled in his new home among the kookaburras in The Australian Walkabout on the lower level of the dome. You can meet him along with over 3,000 plants and animals for a wonderful family day out. 10am-7pm, +971 4 317 3999

New Asian restaurant

Those with a taste for Asian flavours will do well to get down new restaurant Shanghai Me for lunch or dinner today. The venue which opened earlier this week is set to serve up an intricate array of culinary delights from across East Asia using traditional cooking methods and ingredients. There’s a varied selection on the menu including all your favourites, from Cantonese roast duck, dim sum, bao buns and sushi. Don’t miss our pick of Dubai’s best sushi and sashimi restaurants. 12pm-2am, +971 52 593 6765

Souk Madinat Jumeirah

Christmas market at Souk Madinat Jumeirah

It's the most wonderful time of year to ramp up the festive cheer with a visit to the Souk Madinat Jumeirah. The German-esque stalls that line the path offer a range of gifts, to the envy of Santa's elves. Those with little ones in tow can take part in a 'snow' fight, decorate a gingerbread house or try out some four-lane bungee jumping. All the while the adults can get into the holiday spirit with traditional festive food and drinks from around the world. As dusk descends each evening there will be live music creating an ambience while guests take to an abra with Santa at the helm. Running from December 13-28. 3pm until late Sunday to Wednesday, and noon until late Thursday to Saturday. Entry is free.
