Peter Dean Rickards

The Afflicted Yard

Sole DXB is putting an exhibition of works by the late Jamaican artist Peter Dean Rickards at The Third Line art gallery from tonight. The self-taught photographer portrays the underdog through his work and was a pioneer for offering an unbiased look at aspects of life in Jamaica. His multidisciplinary work saw him become a symbol of cultural pride, one who is still celebrated today for his living portrait of the island. The Afflicted Yard exhibition is showing from today until February 6th.

Comedy Show

A favourite on Dubai’s comedy scene, the Racy Desis are performing at the Clavichord tonight. The Hinglish standup routine features comedians Miqdaad Dohadwala, Salman Qureshi Rafeek and Amit Asudani who are set to produce belly laughs with their risqué humour. Targeted at ‘young urban Desis’ the comedians touch on the subjects you’re afraid to speak out loud. Entry is Dhs55, 9pm, +971 50 824 1453

The Great Gatsby at Nikki Beach

Watch The Great Gatsby on under the stars

Fans of Baz Luhrman’s adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby will do well to head Nikki Beach tonight as they show the picture under the stars. Starring Leonardo DiCapripo and Tobey Maguire the film follows the raucous adventures of Gatsby in 1920’s New York. The torrid love story is set to a fantastic soundtrack and is told via Luhrman’s typically fast-paced, dramatic cinematography. Doors open at 7pm and the film starts at 8pm, entry is Dhs50 which is redeemable on food and drink
